New Shopify Updates for developers and Partners
Shopify introduces new updates frequently to make business operations reliable and to support store owners achieve more success with their Shopify stores.
With effect from August 3, 2022, Shopify is updating its Partner Program Agreement(PPA) for the growth of its partners and developers keeping in view the security and reliability of products and services provided on their platform.
So, what are the new changes, and how they are going to affect the partners and developers? Let’s have a look!
Below are some insights related to these changes:
In order to comply with Shopify’s requirements, all apps need to be installed or otherwise initiated directly on or through applicable Shopify surfaces. This will make it possible to give retailers the trust signals they need to make informed choices and contributes to a bigger objective of giving them a reliable and consistent experience while using Shopify apps.
You have to make use of Shopify Billing API for all the listed or unlisted apps on the Shopify App Development Store. This will have several benefits for both their partners as well as merchants. Merchants don’t need to enter their payment details to pay for apps as charges will be displayed directly on their Shopify app proving a secure and smooth process. And, for partners, you no longer have to worry about credit card processing costs or go after merchants since Shopify’s billing may be set up in a variety of ways to suit different requirements.
With the new Shopify update, you can hide an app from being publicly visible on the Shopify App Store and other Shopify surfaces by unlisting the app. Unlisted apps won’t show up in categories or in Shopify or third-party search results, but you can still refer clients to the app listing URL.
Now, Shopify will make sure that all the unpublished apps are reviewed properly by the Shopify App Store review team keeping the merchant’s trust and security as their top priority. This update won’t have an effect on current merchants until 2023. However, you must send your unpublished app for evaluation and approval to ensure that new merchants can download your app beginning on September 1, 2022.
Merchants won’t need to re-install the app after it is made available on the Shopify App Store unless you are submitting a brand new app.
